Queensland severe weather impacting operations | March 2017

Posted on 30 March 2017

March 31, 2017

Adverse weather conditions are currently wreaking havoc across Queensland and Northern NSW. While schools remain closed, our Mainfreight branches are open and will be making every effort to minimise the impact on your deliveries.

Road Closures

Many roads remain closed as the effects move from rain to flooding.

Brisbane

Our drivers are on the roads and will be attempting pick-ups and deliveries but it is slow goings and delays will be unavoidable.

Our team are working hard to operate our outbound linehaul as normal.

Gold Coast

Operations are affected by a reported 81 road closures through the region. All outbound services are operating as normal in serviceable areas.

All deliveries south of Tweed Heads including Byron Bay, Chinderah, Murwillumbah and Kingscliff will not be completed today. We will attempt to service the region on Monday provided flooding subsides as expected.

Lismore remains heavily affected by floods at this time, we will update you as more information come to hand, but we may not be able to service this region until Tuesday next week.

Townsville

Our Townsville branch is open and in full operation. At this stage, some roads within the region remain closed impacting some services, however our drivers are on the road, making deliveries where it is safe to do so.

March 30, 2017

Earlier in the week we advised the Cyclone Debbie destruction would put pressure on our North Queensland operations. The cyclone has moved bringing severe thunderstorms, torrential rain and flash flooding to southern Queensland.

Schools are shut today and businesses have been asked to close by lunchtime today as Brisbane, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast are forecast to receive the brunt of the storm.

Road Transport

All deliveries will be affected. Traffic is at a standstill as residents are being advised to return home and all businesses to close.

No pick ups will be attempted today as due to safety concerns our drivers have been taken off the road.

We will not be sending any freight north to Bundaberg, Maryborough, Gladstone, Rockhampton, Mackay and Townsville.

We will be loading as much as we can but it is a high possibility that freight heading south (Sydney and Newcastle) may also be held.

Port Operations

Operations are heavily affected by traffic and slow going at the terminals. We have been advised the port will be closing by midday.

Air & Ocean and Warehousing

Operations are continuing with a skeleton crew and our team will be following emergency service advice to return home while it is safe to do so.

Townsville update

Our Townsville branch is open and in full operation. At this stage, some roads within the region remain closed, however our drivers are on the road, making deliveries where it is safe to do so.

  • Services to Bowen, Whitsundays and Brisbane are intermittent.

We appreciate your understanding and patience during this time and please be assured our team are focused on delivering the best possible service that the circumstances allow. We will be keeping our this page updated as more information come to hand.
