Wim Bosman Air and Ocean Activities To Continue Under The Name Mainfreight

Posted on 21 September 2011

The acquisition of the Wim Bosman Group by Mainfreight gives the Mainfreight Group - a worldwide logistics network with over 180 branches in amongst others Australia, New Zealand, Asia, America and Europe - immense added value for the European market.

Wim Bosman has had its own air and ocean freight offices in Belgium, the Netherlands and Russia for many years and for Mainfreight the acquisition marks the first step towards full coverage in terms of air and ocean freight offices across Europe.

Since the acquisition in April, the company has worked hard to devise a strategy to fulfil the above objectives. “We want to be recognised and known as a provider of total supply chain solutions. In order to achieve this, we choose a strategy that will entail working in four business units under the brand name with the most clout. Wim Bosman is a strong and trusted brand name in the area of warehousing and haulage and Mainfreight is the best brand name strategically speaking for the further development of the air and ocean freight activities. That's why we're entering the market with two brand names, but everything will be recognisable and centrally coordinated from the Wim Bosman Holding," said Mario Schoofs, CCO of the Wim Bosman Group.

As a result of this strategy, the existing air and ocean freight offices in Belgium and the Netherlands will be continued under the new company name Mainfreight and the house style, practices and IT systems of Mainfreight will be adopted. In the Benelux, ocean freight will operate from the existing branches in the ports of Antwerp and Rotterdam and air freight will be coordinated from the offices in Zaventem (Brucargo) and Amsterdam (Schiphol).

In order to achieve the objectives, an International Manager has been appointed: Mr Jon Gundy. Mainfreight's air and ocean freight activities in Europe will be further expanded under his management. The service provision will include the shipment of FCLs and LCLs, garments on hangers (GOHs), taking care of all conceivable formalities, logistics at origin and a range of value added services. We also are marketing the concept of "Gateway to Europe", which involves combining the import of goods for multiple European destinations in one air or ocean freight shipment.

The objectives are ambitious. After Belgium and the Netherlands, the Wim Bosman branches in France, Poland, Romania and Russia will also be getting an own division for air and ocean freight. The next step will be further expansion to provide full cover across Europe.

The start of these activities, the introduction of the business name as well as the arrival of Jon Gundy will be the main theme for Mainfreight at the next Transport & Logistics trade show in Antwerp.

Wim Bosman stands for “Total Supply Chain Solutions” and with its solid European distribution and shipping network,  worldwide cover for air and ocean freight and value added warehousing, the company more than fulfils its promise.

Wim Bosman will be at the next Transport & Logistics trade show in Antwerp (20-22 September). You are very welcome to  come and meet our new organisation at this event. You will find us in Hall 4 - Stand no. A4036.
