Imports into Australia

1st September 2014 - FAR EAST ASIA (China, Hong Kong, Taiwan & Korea)

Sea Freight - Carriers have published another General Rate Increase (GRI) of USD$300 per TEU. With the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday approaching we expect continued fluctuations in this trade.

Far East Asia Capacity

Further capacity will enter the trade between China and Australia from November, 2014 when CMA/CGM, PIL and OOCC launch a new service.

Trucking in China - Update

From the 01st July, 2014 the China Government has implemented a policy to upgrade trucking emission standards. At the same time driver awards have also increased. Effects of these changes have seen strikes in Ningbo and a shortage of transport options in some ports as new rates come into effect. We expect some small market increases in China inland services as market conditions settle.

15th September 2014 - SOUT EAST ASIA (Thailand, Malaysia & Indonesia) 

Sea Freight - Carriers have published another General Rate Increase (GRI) of USD$300 per TEU. We expect final adjustments to fall short of the published quantum amount and will advise in due course.

1st October 2014 - USA

Sea Freight - Carriers have published a General Rate Increase (GRI) of USD$250 per TEU.

1st October 2014 - FIJI

Sea Freight - Carriers have published a General Rate Increase (GRI) of USD$200 per TEU.

Other News

ASEAN countries including Australia and New Zealand have recently signed treaties that will ease the administration of Free Trade Agreement processing in this region. Please contact your Customs Broker if you need to know more.

The Australian Government announces new provisions when shipping wooden articles. These changes are coming into effect to protect against illegal logging and will be effective from the 30th November, 2014. If you import furniture, manufactured wooden articles or paper please contact your Customs Broker for clarification.

Australian duty rates are set to decrease 1st January 2015 mainly in textiles, clothing and footwear areas.
