Increase to Melbourne's road toll to affect container movements | April 2017

The ongoing expansion to Melbourne’s arterial roads (CityLink, Tulla Widening Project (CTW)) will see a significant increase in road tolls impacting Victoria’s container transport operations.

What does this mean?

Any heavy commercial vehicles (HCV), to include all container operations, traveling on the CityLink, Tullamarine Freeway and the Monash Freeway to and from the Port of Melbourne will face significant increases in road tolls.

What this means for me?

The transport of international containers to and from the Port of Melbourne will face this increase. Having reviewed the costs involved, Mainfreight Air & Ocean, regrets to inform you of the need to pass these charges through the supply chain.

To assist in transparency the cost of tolls will be identified as a separate ‘toll surcharge’ on invoices and charged accordingly.

When does this come into effect?

1st April 2017.

What are the new charges?

The below table gives an indicative summary of the changes, we have been advised that this may vary as of 1 April 2017 to reflect quarterly toll adjustments.
